Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor of the Media Section, Clinical Microbiology, the employee is responsible for the preparation and distribution of Media and other supplies within CPL.

Experience

  • Previous related experience preferred.
  • Laboratory Information System experience preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program from an accredited institution or equivalent education and a minimum of 2 years laboratory experience required. 
  • Workplace Health and Safety training preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Windows computer environment required. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation such as the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) required.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices in a laboratory setting required.
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terms required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Attention to detail required.
  • Ability to organize workload required.
  • Effective verbal communication with staff, supervisors and others required.    
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office required 
  • Ability to make simple mathematical calculations required.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift approximately 10-12 kilograms.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Establish work priorities and schedules is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Working weekends and holidays may be required.
  • Exposure to all hazards and dangers if incumbent is working in a laboratory.  For more definitive information, refer to the Job Hazard Analysis Assessment of this position within the specific laboratory.
