Position Overview

Reporting to the Community Area Director and the Project Steering Committee , the Initiatives Leader will be responsible for:

 

  • Strategic and program planning.
  • Managing the Women’s Heart Health Initiative in collaboration with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority and Shared Health Manitoba, with a focus on provincial implementation over the long term.
  • Developing educational programming and materials including the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Developing and maintaining an ongoing quality monitoring, needs assessment and evaluation system.
  • Supervising and providing support and direction to project staff and resources.
  • Providing leadership capacity building and orientation development for My Health Team clinicians and partners.
  • Developing the budget and establishing controls for managing the budget. Prepares financial reports and variance analysis.
Experience
  • A minimum of five years’ experience, with at least three years in management/leadership in Primary Care and/or Community Health is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates competent and/or knowledgeable of Indigenous customs, beliefs and traditions.
  • Experience with human resource management and supporting interdisciplinary professional teams. Experience in the introduction of new systems and change management strategies is essential.
  • Experience with financial management is required, including designing budgets, monitoring spending, and preparing financial reports/variance analysis. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide project leadership and experience providing guidance and managing complex projects.
  • Demonstrated success in working with multi-dimensional partners across many sectors of the health system and/or externally.
  • A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered. 
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a Health Related Discipline. 
  • Master’s Degree in health, social services, allied health or administration required.  
  • Specific expertise and training in health equity and cultural safety required.
  • Training in coaching, change management and project management would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) and/or chronic disease management, including prevention, screening, and treatment, is essential.
  • Competency with MS Word and presentation programs required. SharePoint an asset.
     
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the applicable discipline’s college.
  • Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license for the province of Manitoba are required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Superior oral communication skills required for presentations, group facilitation and sustaining productive meetings.
  • Strong facilitation skills and knowledge of the principles of adult learning.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interprofessional/intersectoral, team in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to write and produce a variety of policies, procedures and communiqués including newsletters, proposals, publications and business plans.
  • Ability to coordinate special events and present information to groups/grand rounds, fundraising events, lectures and professional meetings.
  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic, innovative thinking, collaborative relationships and motivational leadership.  
  • Ability to coach and mentor managers and staff.
  • Ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Skills and experience in synthesis and knowledge translation from other jurisdictions and research and literature materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
Physical Requirements
  • Hours of work are primarily Monday – Friday but may include evening or weekend shifts as required.
  • Travel throughout Manitoba will be required.

Salary is commensurate with education and qualifications.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
