JOB PROFILE:

As the Housekeeping and Laundry Aide, you will:  

Assist in the operation of the housekeeping and laundry departments, striving to maintain a high quality of service consistent with the organization’s goals and objectives. This position reports directly to the Housekeepingand Laundry Supervisor and operates under the supervision of the Support Services Manager.   

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Function according to housekeeping policies and procedures, and work within established routines in order to meet standards.
  • Function as part of a housekeeping team, assist where help is needed for the purpose of creating a clean and healthy environment.
  • Ensure that all floor areas, offices, elevators, computer areas, and common areas are cleaned as per schedule.
  • Assist with room turnovers when a room vacancy arises.
  • Learn the function of all cleaning machines within Lions Housing Centre Inc.
  • Ensure that all necessary cleaning supplies are properly stocked and supplied in the appropriate locations.  Ensure that the cleaning cart is organized, restocked and replenished as required. 
  • Ensure that all garbage and refuse collected daily, thrown away or recycled appropriately.
  • Attend staff meetings, retraining, assist with orientation and buddying (training) of new staff and assist present staff with tasks that require more than one employee to complete.
  • Function in a flexible manner by prioritizing functions and recognizing the individuality of each resident.
  • Follow standards outlined in the Infection Control, Fire and Safety, and WHMIS programs.
  • Washing and drying of linens/personal clothing.
  • Delivery of personal clothing to resident’s rooms.
  • Pick up soiled linen and personal clothing.
  • Deliver clean linens to all floors.
  • Folding and hanging of personal clothing.
  • Folding of linens and placing them on shelves.
  • All cleaning of the laundry room at the end of the shift.
  • Labelling of all personal clothing.
  • Assist in inventory recording.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Professionalism: 

  • Maintains confidentiality in all matters pertaining to residents, staff, and facility operations.  
  • Practices in a manner that supports the Respectful Workplace Policy.  
  • Participates in mandatory annual education.  
  • Work collaboratively with all staff as required.

Your education and qualifications include: 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent is required. 
  • Minimum 1 year housekeeping and laundry experience in a Long-Term Care, Supportive Housing and Independent Living setting; or commercial cleaning experience is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of WHMIS applicable to Housekeeping/ Laundry. 
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, lift and reach continuously throughout the entire shift. Ability to lift approximately 50 Ibs.
  • Effective problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the safe operation of cleaning equipment used at Lions Housing Centres preferred
  • Good organizational skills, with ability to adapt to changing needs and requirements.  
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English is required. 
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the requirements of the position, including the ability to climb ladders
  • Able to carry out duties in a professional manner, working under minimum or no supervision, and in compliance with confidentiality requirements of Lions Housing Centres and its Residents 
  • Presents a courteous, cooperative and professional manner to both Residents and Staff while performing duties.
  • Must maintain a clean, neat appearance, in accordance with Lions Housing Centres Inc. dress code. 
  • Ability to work weekdays and alternate weekends.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
