Position Overview
Under the direction of the Facility Support Services Lead, the Groundskeeper is responsible for the planning and maintenance of the Centre grounds.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in groundskeeping or related experience is required.
- Demonstrated experience using and completing minor maintenance on various types of groundskeeping equipment, including but not limited to skid steer tractors, yard tractors, trailers, chain saws, gas powered mowers, trimmers and clippers.
- Demonstrated experience in general maintenance activities.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office and Internet search browsers is required.
- Demonstrated experience working with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) is an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Grade 12 education, Manitoba standards, is required.
- Landscape & Horticulture Technician (Manitoba) is preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.
- Must possess a Manitoba Pesticide License or is willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Licensure for skid steer tractors or other mobile equipment is required or is willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS.
- Knowledge of relevant Workplace Safety and Health responsibilities.
- Must be able to prioritize workload and demands with required daily essential tasks.
- Fast-paced and highly active position that demands a great deal of effort and concentration to be able to cope with the daily requirements.
- Authority to perform all assigned duties and responsibilities within established policies and procedures.
- Assigned duties are performed with minimal supervision.
- Assigned duties are performed in accordance with the preventive maintenance program.
- Effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships are maintained within the Department and with other personnel.
- Works in co-operation with the other members of the Facility Management Department.
- Has contact with other personnel.
- Skill, efficiency and diligence are demonstrated in the performance of Grounds keeping and building duties.
- All fire and safety rules and regulations are observed in the performance of duties.
- Confidentiality is maintained in all matters pertaining to the Center, and patients and their families. (PHIA/FIPPA).
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to withstand periods of strenuous activity.
- Job requires heavy lifting, bending, pushing and working from heights to complete daily tasks.
- Work is almost exclusively outdoors with exposure to environmental conditions and in some cases, working in extreme cold or heat may be required.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
