Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the close supervision and guidance of the Clinical Geneticist and Program Director and concurrent with self-teaching and on-the-job training, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the genetics program including: screening and accepting patient referrals, preparation and follow up of families for genetic assessment; and liaison with other related fields and professionals as a member of the genetics team. NOTE: The degree of independence and level of complexity will increase proportionately with the incumbent’s increased demonstrated proficiency.
Experience
- Previous related experience in a medical setting preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in Genetics required.
- The ability and initiative to self-teach is essential.
- In addition to self-teaching, on-the-job training will be provided by the Geneticist and Genetic Counsellors.
- The incumbent is expected to attend relevant continuing education programs in genetic counselling and related areas, on an ongoing basis and as requested by the Geneticist.

- Basic knowledge of Genetics essential.
- Proficiency with Windows applications required.
- Demonstrated counselling skills preferred.
- Demonstrated organization skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to work as a member of a team essential.
