Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director, Radiopharmacy (or designate), the incumbent is responsible for:

  1. Preparation of radiopharmaceuticals using sterile techniques.
  2. Preparation of reagents for the preparation of sterile, pyrogen free radiopharmaceuticals.
  3. Conducting quality control tests on radiopharmaceuticals using such techniques as, thin layer chromatography, HPLC, absorption chromatography, particle filtration and gamma counting.
  4. Carrying out the daily inoculation of sterility cultures on the clinical radiopharmaceuticals produced within the Radiopharmacy department.
  5. Aseptically dispensing the radiopharmaceuticals for distribution to client Nuclear Medicine Departments.
  6. Preparation of radiopharmaceuticals for transport to other hospitals in conformance with the required Transport Canada and CNSC regulations.
  7. Separation of cell components from the whole blood of patients with suspected infections and then radiolabeling these and preparing them for re-injection into the patient.
  8. Performing general laboratory duties, e.g. restocking lab, cleaning glassware, lab cleanliness maintenance, etc.
  9. Performing assigned development projects under the guidance of the Director (or designate).
  10. Using the laboratory computer system to track radioactive inventory, maintain inventory of radiopharmaceutical productions and quantities dispensed to client Nuclear Medicine Departments and required information reporting and radiopharmaceutical tracking according to the regulations of CNSC and Health Canada.

Experience

  • Recent experience performing benchwork (wet chemistry) in a laboratory setting or other related experience required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • University degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biological Sciences or a related field or completion of a diploma program in a relevant field plus related experience required.


SPECIAL TRAINING:

On the job training with respect to:

  • Compliance with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Act and the Regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in all work performed.
  • Compliance with the Regulations of the Drugs Directorate of Health Canada in all work performed.
  • Obtaining a "Certificate of Competence" in the Transport of Radioactive Dangerous Goods".

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • University degree in Chemistry, Physics or Biological Sciences.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity.
  • Physically able to lift lead transfer pots weighing up to 20 pounds.
