Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Nuclear Medicine Physician/Radiology, Manager or Charge Technologist, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Professional nursing services to patients undergoing myocardial perfusion cardiac stress testing and supports bone mineral density (DXA) reporting workflows at St. Boniface Hospital.
  • The RN works within a split workflow. In the morning, the RN performs preparatory tasks, patient pre-screening, and clinical duties within the cardiac nuclear stress laboratory. In the afternoon, the RN supports the bone mineral density DXA service through structured chart review and clinical data entry, in preparation for physician interpretation.
  • Clinical supervision for all activities is provided by the supervising Nuclear Medicine Physicians, who retain responsibility for clinical protocols, escalation decisions, and final interpretation of diagnostic studies. All diagnostic interpretation and clinical decision-making remain the responsibility of the attending physicians.

Experience

  • Recent related clinical nursing experience is preferred.
  • Experience with IV initiation and management is required.
  • Previous experience in cardiology, emergency medicine, critical care (intensive care unit (ICU)/coronary care unit (CCU)), post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), interventional/procedural areas, participation in rapid response/code teams, or step-down/telemetry units is an asset.
  • Prior experience in nuclear medicine, diagnostic imaging, procedural nursing, or outpatient diagnostic services is an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.

Special Training:

  • Familiarity with basic electrocardiogram (ECG) principles is strongly desirable; however, cardiac technologists are always available to provide real-time ECG expertise, with physician support on site at all times.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to type at a minimum speed of greater than 30 words per minute (WPM), verified by a standardized typing test (e.g., typing.com or equivalent). This requirement confirms baseline computer literacy and comfort with keyboard-based workflows.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate physical effort required during cardiac stress testing activities.
  • Prolonged standing and focused observation during clinical procedures.
