Garden and Food Skills Programmer
1.0 EFT, Permanent
NorWest Co-op Community Health requires a Garden and Food Skills Programmer to provide leadership in connecting the community with the NorWest Urban Farm. The Programmer will be responsible for engaging community and connecting them to the land through volunteering and education programs. The goal is giving community much more control in the direction of the urban farm and developing community leaders by creating a Farm Leadership Council. The programmer will focus on deepening our connection with indigenous people and newcomers. The Programmer will collaborate with other NorWest programs and encourage active participation at the Urban Farm. The programmer will seek out and develop strong relationships with stakeholders such as community members, community organizations, schools, post-secondary institutions and other partners.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- Minimum 2 years experience in community garden/urban farm settings
- Knowledge of food security and the Community Food Centre model
- Experience working in community development and community education
- Knowledge of community development principles and practices
- Skills in leadership, community engagement and group facilitation
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings
- Knowledge and experience with diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
- Working knowledge of plants/gardening/growing food
- Valid MB driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Salary range $24.507– 28.412/hour (as per CUPE collective agreement)
