Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager, Facility Management or designate, and within the mission aims and objectives of the Concordia Hospital, this position is responsible for Maintaining and improving Concordia’s interior infrastructure.

Experience

  • Five years’ experience in a commercial or institutional setting in the building maintenance trade with direct responsibility for but not limited to:
    • Constructing/installing/repairing Millwork.
    • Hardware installation and service.
    • Routine maintenance, repairs.
    • Additions and alterations.
    • Drywall repair, taping and finishing.
    • Installation of wall protection, hand rails and corner guards.
    • Application of paint, stains and clear coat finishes.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Red seal designation in applicable trades preferred.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Manitoba Building Code and the Manitoba Fire Code.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of paints, stains, finishes, wallpaper, and wall impact protection.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CSA Z317 for dust control and mitigation strategies.
  • Ability to read and develop blueprints and schematic drawings and diagrams.  
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Must possess the necessary interpersonal skills to effectively carry out the required functions.
  • Must have the ability to perform other duties and functions resulting from the complexities of hospital/institutional settings. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all hospital/patient/resident-related matters. 
  • Ability to be able to work effectively with limited supervision. 
  • Basic computer skills required. 
  • Proven ability to undertake carpentry and painting tasks as required.
  • Ability to prepare surfaces prior to applying a finishing.
  • Ability to apply finishes by brush, roller or spray apparatus.
  • Ability to safely operate the facility management power tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be available to work days, evenings or nights.
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
     

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
