Job Summary:

 

Under direction of the Director of the Provincial Oncology Drug Program, the Drug Access Navigator (DAN) will be responsible for the facilitation and coordination of patient access programs. The coordination will be required with other members of the multidisciplinary team: medical oncologists, hematologists, pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, nurses and social workers.

 

Working with the pharmacy team this position may also ensure that record keeping is performed, and maintain adequate drug inventory.

 

Note: The successful candidate will be working with hazardous materials on a daily basis. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training are provided. Primary working hours are Monday to Friday day shifts.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education

  • Post secondary diploma/certificate of a pharmacy assistant program or equivalent from an accredited educational institution.

 

Experience 

  • 2 years of recent experience as a Pharmacy Assistant in the Health System and in oncology practice setting is preferred.

 

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

 

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology membership is considered an asset

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and medical terminology essential.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills essential.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and independence in planning work to meet demanding schedules.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with other individuals.
  • Demonstrated analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of pharmacy structures and operating models, day to day operations and standard policies and practices is an asset

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated clients/visitors/staff
  • Standing, lifting, and repetitive motion.
  • Extensive use of eyesight and concentration for precision work.
  • Extensive use of computers.
  • Must be able to work under stress and time constraints.
  • May be required to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • May, on occasion, be required to work extended hours.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, physical and emotional stress.
  • Work with hazardous materials on a daily basis. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training are provided

 

Other

  • Must have satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada
  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset
