JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Care (DOC) and in accordance with The Simkin Centre’s mission statement, policies, procedures, Accreditation Canada Standards and professional nursing standards the Direct Care Nursing Resource (DCNR) is responsible for providing clinical expertise and orientation to nursing personnel, as well as staff development, education and infection prevention and control programs for Simkin Centre staff. This position will work closely with the organization and other site educators to conceptualize, plan, implement and evaluate programs to meet the education needs of the departments, services, residents and their families/advocates within The Centre. Coordinates student placements in conjunction with the departments involved. Maintains clinical practice base.
Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies Manager or designate (i.e. supervisor) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
- Masters of Nursing an asset
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education an asset
- Current registration in the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Certificate in Adult Education or equivalent from a recognized academic institution an asset
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate an asset
- CPR Instructor Certificate an asset
- C.N.A. certification in relevant field an asset
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years recent clinical experience required preferably in a Geriatrics/Rehabilitation/Long- Term Care facility
- Minimum of two years recent teaching experience preferred, preferably in a formal adult education setting such as a health care setting, university or community college
- BLS registration required
- Minimum Data Set (MDS) preferr
Knowledge:
Demonstrates knowledge and support of:
- Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices and other legislative acts
- Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles
- Knowledge of educational needs analysis, program design and evaluation
- Knowledge of human physiology, patho-physiology, psychology and sociology
- Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions would be an asset
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to create a positive working environment when staff requires new information, new skills and techniques
- Ability to function creatively and independently
- Ability to work in a computerized work setting with good working knowledge of Microsoft Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse employee population and external partners
OTHER
- Hours of work may be flexible to accommodate evening and night shifts as required for providing education sessions.
