POSITION: Community Action and Engagement Programmer

PROGRAM: Community Development
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director, Community Food Center

POSITION SUMMARY:

NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre requires a Community Action and Engagement Programmer to run the Volunteer and Community Action Programs at the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre. Volunteer Management includes recruitment, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation and appreciation of CFC volunteers. Community Action Program includes Community Action Training, Peer Advocacy Program, Social Justice Activities and Tax Programming to build community capacity and support the community with health and wellness initiatives. Working closely with other NorWest programs and Community Food Centres Canada the Community Action and Engagement Programmer will support community members and programming. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in related field
• Minimum 1-year experience working with community development
• Knowledge of community resources and community development principles and practices.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Empathetic, non-judgmental approach.
• Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings
• Knowledge and experience with diverse cultures and economic backgrounds.
• Experience cooking for large groups is an asset.
• Skills in teaching, leadership development and group facilitation
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
• Criminal records and child abuse registry checks required
