Communications and Fundraising Specialist

POSITION:                   Communications and Fundraising Specialist (1.0 EFT)

 

PROGRAM:                 NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre  

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:      Community Food Centre Director

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

NorWest Co-op Community Health is looking for a dynamic communications and fundraising professional who will be accountable for developing and implementing a diverse portfolio of activities for the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre. These activities may include; direct mail, major donors and third party events. This person will also assist with activities connected with the Norwest Community Food Centre’s signature event.

Reporting to the Director, the Communications and Fundraising Specialist will play a prominent role in supporting and expanding the round table of local fundraising champions, work on NorWest’s development goals, and collaborate with national project partners. This person will manage a stewardship and recognition program and will assist in the management of the database. The Communications and Fundraising Specialist will also support the work to develop proactive and effective strategies and tools to promote our work, public image and to create awareness of health, poverty and food justice issues in our community.

 

DUTIES:

Communications

  • Develop and implement effective ongoing outreach efforts through traditional and emerging media channels
  • Active cultivation of media contacts and relationships, maintain press list and responding to media queries. Track press hits and conduct continual monitoring and analysis of communications reach across media channels 
  • Strategic plan for external communications materials and digital marketing plan to raise awareness. Lead media relations efforts, special events, and external communications such as social media and e-newsletter.
  • Lead organization on brand management to ensure cohesive look and consistent messaging for NorWest Community Food Centre

Fund Development

  • Manage a portfolio of sponsor prospects to steward, cultivate and solicit for events and programs
  • Research and compose grant applications and reporting materials 
    Manage giving program including direct mail, third party etc.
  • Maintain funder prospect lists and help cultivate relationships with funders
  • Contribute to the organization’s annual planning and priority setting, budgeting, and fundraising processes 
  • Develop a recognition program for donors and sponsors
  • Manage accurate and timely entry and tracking of all donor and funder data, correspondence, contacts and deadlines

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and/or equivalent work experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent design software is required
  • 2-3 years of donor development and fundraising required
  • 3-5 years of communications experience required
  • Proven experience with website and social media management
  • Demonstrated ability to write for various mediums such as print and the web
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse fundraising activities
  • Event management experience
  • Diplomatic, confident, organized, assertive, enthusiastic team player
  • Public speaking experience is considered an asset
  • Commitment and passion for food security, health, community development, and social justice
  • Those selected for an interview will be asked to provide a portfolio of 2-3 writing and design samples
