Reporting to the Program Manager, Hope & Healing at CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB), the Clinical Services Leader, Nutrition Services oversees daily services and provides guidance and support to the dietitian team to ensure safe and responsive care for patients living with cancer.  This position works in collaboration with all members of the multi-disciplinary cancer care team and uses a person-centred model of care to guide delivery of outpatient clinical nutritional services. This role is responsible for nutrition services planning and development, patient information and education resources, service standards, guidelines, promotion, reporting and evaluation, contributes to oncology nutritional research to foster development and improvement in oncology nutrition.

The Clinical Services Leader, Nutrition Services works in collaboration with CCMB programs, Community Cancer Programs, Health Regions and external partners to ensure a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive approach to nutritional care. The Services Leader will establish and support a provincial oncology nutrition network to facilitate a community of practice for dietitians offering services to cancer patients in Manitoba. The Services Leader works to create a welcoming, equitable, and culturally safe care environment at CancerCare Manitoba.

Qualifications:

Required:

Level of Formal Education & Experience

• Graduate of a recognized dietetic internship program or practical training program including Masters of Applied (Human) Nutrition programs from an accredited educational institution.
• Completion of Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racism training be completed within the first 12 months of assuming the position.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five years in clinical dietetics.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in clinical nutrition program planning, development, promotion and evaluation.
• Experience working in nutritional oncology is an asset.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or other equity-deserving populations is an asset.

Preferred

• Management or supervisory experience.
• Experience working in health care setting with oncology patients.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities in an interdisciplinary team environment.
• Knowledge of the regulations and scope of practice documents that guide the practice of Clinical Nutrition.
• Ability to initiate and support change.
• Ability to critically evaluate, analyze and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
• Demonstrated ability to ensure that the provision of clinical nutrition services meets the professional standards of practice
• Ability to work ethically, with integrity and a high level of confidentiality, in accordance with professional standards, legislation and organizational policies.
• Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs as well as electronic patient charting software.
• Knowledge of research processes is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with health care providers, community organizations, and service partners to support patient care.
• Extensive knowledge of community resources available to support cancer patients and their families.
• Demonstrated understanding of health equity, social determinants of health, and structural barriers—including systemic racism and the impacts of colonization—that may affect access to care and treatment. 
• Knowledge of culturally safe care principles and the ability to provide respectful and responsive care to individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including Indigenous Peoples with distinct histories, cultures and relationships to land and community. 
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. 
• Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.  
• Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families, and colleagues in a sensitive, respectful, and professional manner. 
• Ability to work ethically, with integrity and a high level of confidentiality, in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and organizational policies. 
• Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action (2015) and Manitoba’s Path to Reconciliation Act (2016). 

Required Licenses, Registrations, Designations

• Member of the College of Dietitians of Manitoba.
• Member of Dietitians of Canada and the DC Oncology Network is preferred.
• Must be registered or eligible for, and maintain registration with, an appropriate Manitoba or Canadian professional licensing body.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel between sites is required 
• Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings and to lift and carry items.

• Must have satisfactory employment record
• Must be legally able to work in Canada.
• Ability to speak French is considered an asset.
