Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager, Speech-Language Pathology, the Clinical Service Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical service delivery and environmental/operational issues in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology to ensure optimum resident/patient care in a safe therapeutic environment.

  • The incumbent
    • Provides guidance to Speech-Language Pathologists in a through clinical leadership, mentoring, supervision, education, evaluation, and research.
    • Contributes to the delivery of quality SLP services by examining, developing, refining and evaluating the body of knowledge and clinical practices and by assisting the Manager in program planning and development.
    • Assists in performance appraisals and recruitment, coordinating clinical work schedules, caseloads and rotations.
    • Maintains a partial clinical caseload including SLP assessment, intervention, program planning, discharge planning and follow up.
    • Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g., utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures).
    • Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Experience

  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant SLP experience in a LTC, rehab and/or hospital setting.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited, recognized University is required.
  • Completion of, and ongoing participation in, relevant courses, and workshops, to address continuing education requirements; supervision in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and specialization required for designated clinical area.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Must be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba (CASLPM). Membership in other professional organizations is encouraged; for example, Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) and the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

  • Clinical and administrative skills required for caring for the elderly and managing programs appropriate for the Deer Lodge population.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to work extended hours and commute among sites within the WRHA to attend meetings or provide clinical leadership.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
