The successful applicant may be eligible for an annual full-time incentive of up to $2,000 each year until 2025 as per MOU #31 of the current MNU collective agreement.

 

Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager Health Services, the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for providing clinical leadership support and expertise to the nursing team.

The Clinical Resource Nurse assumes a leadership role in coordinating patient/resident care within the health care team to ensure quality patient/resident care outcomes, and promotes an interdisciplinary patient/resident centred approach to care based on best practice.

Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, patients/residents or any others who enter the premises.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years current, relevant clinical experience in long-term care.
  • Recent experience in the provision of adult education.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nursing (Mental Health) education program required.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing from a recognized university preferred.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated evidence of continued professional development.
  • Successful completion of a relevant post basic program may be required or preferred in designated areas.
  • For Mental Health positions: certification in “Non-Violent Crisis Intervention” is required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

  • Knowledge of:

    • College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for RPNs in Mental Health.
    • Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for RPNs in Mental Health.
    • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act for RPNs in Mental Health.
    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
    • Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
    • Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires shift work, extended working hours.
  • Position involves physical activities such as standing, transferring and transporting patients/residents and equipment.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter challenging reactive behaviours of individuals.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.
  • Hours of work are flexible and may include evening, night or weekend shifts as required.

 

 

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
