Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Working as a member of the Health Information Services team, the incumbent is responsible to perform a variet of tasks related to health information including but not limited to patient/client registration, creating and maintaining the patient/client health record, filing, record retention and destruction and release of personal health information for ongoing care.
Experience
- One (1) year experience in a Health Information Services Department required within the last two years.
or
- One (1) year experience in a Medical Office required within the last two years.
- Experience working with both electroinc and paper health records preferred.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required
- Successful completion of a recognized Medical/Surgical Office Assistant diploma required.
- Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program perferred.

Qualifications and Skills
- Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm) required.
- Medical terminology (75% pass) required.
- Operational knowledge of computer terminals required.
- Good command of English (oral and written) required.
- Good interperonsal communication skills required.
- Problem-solves and exercises judgement for decision-making within the scope of the job description.
- Good understanding of the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act.
- Ensures security of patient/client health records and personal health information within the department.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged sitting.
- Standing, walking, stairs, bending, reaching above head, lifting/moving patient records and boxes upto 30 lbs.
- Must be able to deal with the public, patients/clients, coworkers, health care professionals, managers in a courteous, respectful and confidential manner.
- Work environment consists of frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to review documents electronically via a computer monitor screen for prolonged periods.
- Working as part of a team.
- Working alone.
- No natural light.
- Adheres to all safety and health policies, regulations ans safe work practices.
- May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
