Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Working as a member of the Health Information Services team, the incumbent is responsible to perform a variet of tasks related to health information including but not limited to patient/client registration, creating and maintaining the patient/client health record, filing, record retention and destruction and release of personal health information for ongoing care.   

Experience

  • One (1) year experience in a Health Information Services Department required within the last two years

or

  • One (1) year experience in a Medical Office required within the last two years
  • Experience working with both electroinc and paper health records preferred

 

A combination of education and experience may be considered 

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards required
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical/Surgical Office Assistant diploma required
  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program perferred

Qualifications and Skills

  • Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 30 wpm) required 
  • Medical terminology (75% pass) required
  • Operational knowledge of computer terminals required
  • Good command of English (oral and written) required
  • Good interperonsal communication skills required
  • Problem solves and exercises judgement for decision making within the scope of the job description 
  • Good understanding of the Mental Health Act and Personal Health Information Act
  • Ensures security of patient/client health records and personal health information within the department

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting
  • Standing, walking, stairs, bending, reaching above head, lifting/moving patient records and boxes upto 30 lbs
  • Must be able to deal with the public, patients/clients, coworkers, health care professionals, managers in a courteous, respectful and confidential manner
  • Work environment consists of frequent interruptions 
  • Must be able to review documents electronically via a computer monitor screen for prolonged periods 
  • Working as part of a team 
  • Working alone 
  • No natural light
  • Adheres to all safety and health policies, regulations ans safe work practices
  • May be required to travel throughout the service area requiring a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle
