Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Responsible for the assurance of accurate patient demographics and examination information which results in efficient and effective recording and reporting of and correct billing of examinations in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.

Experience

  • Previous patient care experience in a Diagnostic Imaging Environment is preferred.
  • Experience using PC based Win 95 or newer word processing software.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Business College or Medical Secretarial Training program.
  • Recognized medical terminology certificate (excellent understanding of terminology and human anatomy is required).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Information and/or training will be provided within the probation period as applicable for the following:
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
    • Regional, site and unit policies and procedures.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the Diagnostic Imaging Team.
    • Radiology Information System.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Accurate typing skills, minimum 45 words per minute and/or experience in keyboarding.
  • Excellent spelling skills.
  • Clerical aptitude and ability to effectively maintain patient flow, records, film folders and reports related to the position.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to work co-operatively and courteously with patients, families and all hospital personnel.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • Takes appropriate action for any problems with equipment or supplies, reports safety hazards and noticeable damage to building surfaces or equipment.
