Child Therapist
0.2 EFT, Permanent
NorWest Co-op Community Health is seeking a Child Therapist – Family Violence Program for a 0.2 EFT (7.5 hours per week) position. This position provides therapeutic counselling to children and youth who have experienced or witnessed family violence. The Child Therapist will develop and implement collaborative short- and long-term case management plans with the child and family, offering time-limited, goal-focused therapy that promotes healing, safety, and resilience.
The role requires the use of evidence-based, developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions that are trauma-informed, attachment-based, and culturally responsive. The therapist will work closely with caregivers and other supports to ensure integrated care and continuity in the child’s healing journey.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) required; Master of Social Work (MSW) or equivalent clinical degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience providing therapeutic counselling to children and youth who have experienced trauma and family violence.
- Strong knowledge of the dynamics of family violence, its impact on child and youth development, and best practices in child and youth trauma therapy.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement short- and long-term therapy and case management plans collaboratively with children, youth, and their families.
- Skilled in using creative, play-based, expressive, and developmentally appropriate interventions to support children in processing experiences and building coping skills.
- Experience working with families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a respectful, strengths-based, and culturally safe manner.
- Strong understanding of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals for wraparound support.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Salary Range: 34.836 to 45.462 (according to MAHCP contract)
