Position Overview

Main Function:
In collaboration with the Facilities Support Service Lead and/or Manager, the Chief Power Engineer assists co-ordination of the operations of the Power House.

Experience

  • Experience with operation and maintenance of the Physical Plant, and other equipment such as boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, stationary engines, compressors, generators, pumps, motors, and other related equipment in all areas throughout the hospital.
  • Experience in working with budgets and schedules.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Currently holds a valid 2nd Class Province of Manitoba Power Engineering Certificate in good standing (minimum of 5 yrs.).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Currently holds a valid 2nd Class or higher Province of Manitoba Power Engineer’s Certificate. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of fired boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, and all related equipment in 
  • the Power house, mechanical floors, and elsewhere in the facility.
  • A sound knowledge base of applicable safety and equipment operating regulations.
  • Knowledge in reading blue prints.
  • Ability to set and adjust priorities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic Computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively handle emergency situations.
  • Ability to effectively communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality in all hospital/patient/resident related matters.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate to heavy lifting required.
  • Good physical and mental health in order to meet the position demands.
  • May be required to work extended hours.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
