Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
The Shared Health Mental Health and Addictions program provides a range of mental health and addiction services across the healthcare continuum that support and promote recovery. Through collaboration and partnership across various health, social service and community sectors the program strives to promote mental health and well-being for all public safety personnel, to reduce inequities and the impact of mental health and addiction problems and to work towards sustainability of mentally healthy individuals and communities.
Main Function:
The Brief Treatment Counselor will provide brief solution-focused therapy and short-term support to individuals accessing the Public Safety Mental Health Service. Working within an integrated team approach, the Brief Treatment Counselor will contribute to the overall improved health status of clients working in public safety across the province, accessing the service through self-referral or referral, while ensuring the provision of expert mental health clinical counseling interventions. Services are provided within a framework of advanced clinical practice, including consultation, assessment, and solution-focused therapeutic interventions. The counsellor will work collaboratively and interactively with a multidisciplinary team and all other components of the Public Safety Mental Health Service, functioning as clinician, and liaising with other sectors within the health care system as required. The counsellor will be required to function as an autonomous mental health expert.
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years mental health clinical practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge and advanced level experience in clinical assessment and a range of treatment modalities.
- Experience and training in group therapy an asset.
- Experience working with uniformed personnel an asset.
- Experience and training in treatment models related to trauma is an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Bachelor’s degree in a clinical designation.
- Clinical Master’s degree preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current licensure or registration (in good standing) in designated field.
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license.
- Subject to criminal record and adult abuse registry checks.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication, and documentation skills.
- Able to use problem resolution skills to handle sensitive and complex issues.
- Ability to work in a community care setting as a member of a multidisciplinary team serving diverse populations and presenting issues.
- Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
- Ability to be flexible in work hours in terms of balancing group versus individual work; balancing the ability to consult with other professionals and service providers as required.
- Knowledge and experience in evidence-based mental health treatment and specifically CBT-based interventions.
- Ability to work within a complex system of services and collaborate with system stakeholders, including community services and primary care providers.
- Proficient using a variety of software programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, etc.) and familiarity with electronic medical records platforms.
