Position Overview
The Associate Chief Medical Officer for Indigenous Health (ACMO-IH) reports to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the WRHA and will be appointed in consultation with the WRHA Senior Executive Team.
The ACMO-IH shall assist the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for the WRHA and WRHA Senior Executive team, in collaboration with Indigenous communities, in supporting the health care needs of the communities. The ACMO-IH is responsible for ensuring that models of health care be adapted to support the needs of the Indigenous communities. As able, the ACMO-IH shall assist the CMO in carrying out the CMO’s operational and strategic mandate. This includes support related to core operations such as patient flow (e.g. access block), human resource management and capacity management. The ACMO-IH is a member of the regional leadership team and will be actively involved in the development of regional planning including strategies, financial and physician management.
The ACMO-IH shall be a member of the Provincial Council related to Indigenous Health and anti-racism.
THIS IS A DESIGNATED INDIGENOUS COMPETITION, OPEN TO INDIGENOUS APPLICANTS. Experience
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills inclusive of coaching/mentoring and performance management skills, in a health services delivery organization.
- Demonstrated leadership in the areas of core operations like patient flow and capacity management.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- A medical practitioner, qualified to practice Medicine in the Province of Manitoba and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM).
- A member of the active Medical Staff of the WRHA.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM).
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Expertise in Indigenous Cultural Safety and Indigenous-specific racism.
- Demonstrated ability to work with First Nations, Metis, Inuit and urban Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Understanding of Indigenous practices, traditions, and medicines.
- Understanding of holistic approaches to Indigenous well-being.
- Understanding of Indigenous health issues, trends, and practices from both a panIndigenous and distinctions-based approach.
- Understanding of current health related challenges in Indigenous Health.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training related to enhancing leadership/management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and harmoniously with all members of the healthcare team and external partners and agencies.
- Understanding of current evidenced-based trends in related health care.
- Will possess a sound vision of a reformed healthcare system and an ability to promote teamwork within a rapidly changing environment.
- Financial acumen to access completeness and viability of proposals.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
