Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Section Head, Adult Anesthesia, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the high-quality performance of anesthesia, cardiac and respiratory equipment including:
- Patient Care - provides clinical assistance to the anesthetist during Off-site *and operative cases including, assisting with airway management and monitoring of patients during procedures and transporting patients to the recovery room. (30%)
- Technical - assessing, pre-testing, maintaining, repairing and modifying anesthesia machines, ventilators, cardiac monitors and accessory equipment in each of the O.R.’s and off site* areas according to C.A.S.* standards supported by Anesthesia. (40%)
- Consultant/Resource – acts as a technical resource for support, nursing and medical staff relating to the maintenance, care and operation of anesthesia and respiratory equipment and related issues. (15%)
- Other related functions. (15%)
*Off-site areas include: Psych Health, Cancer Care, Neuro-angiography, CT Scan, MRI, Heart Cath Lab, Gamma Knife, Pacemaker OR, Cardiac Defibrillator Procedures Room, etc.
*C.A.S. – Canadian Anesthesia Society.
Experience
- At least one (1) year previous experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Previous ICU experience preferred.
- Previous Operating Room experience preferred.
- Previous experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and electronic anaesthesia equipment preferred.
- Basic skills in data collection preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Technology.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Solid working knowledge of anesthetic machines, ventilators and related anesthetic equipment.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Must hold a current active practicing license with the Manitoba Association of Registered Respiratory Therapists (M.A.R.R.T.). Registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (C.S.R.T.) preferred.
- Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
- Compliant with N95 Fit testing.

- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Flexibility required in prioritizing workday.
- Ability to work well in emergent situations.
- Good organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
