Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Volunteer Services is a Health Sciences Centre (HSC) department that recruits, screens, places, and trains volunteers within the hospital. Volunteer Services works with various programs and departments to develop volunteer roles. Volunteers provide support and comfort to patients and their families in many different ways.
Volunteers play an integral part in the culture of HSC and contribute close to 70,000 hours per year.
Main Function:
Develops and maintains volunteer participation in Volunteer Services managed programs and clinical areas at the Health Sciences Centre.
Experience
- At least 3 years' experience including: recruitment, interviewing, screening, problem-solving, supervising, orientation and training, program planning, effective relationships with volunteers and referral agencies, implementing formal and informal recognition, awareness of current trends and issues, experience working with referral agents and clients.
- Previous experience as a volunteer required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Post-secondary education plus recognized training in Volunteer Management preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Active Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC) membership.
- Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) designation preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
- Must have, or be able to acquire within a reasonable period of time, a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to the area of supervision.
