Position Overview

Plans, organizes and carries out a program of the recreation activities that provides entertainment, facilitates communication. Exercise, relaxation, opportunity to express creative talents or competition and fulfills basic physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of the residents.

  • Two (2) years working in a geriatric or related health care setting.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Certificate or equivalent.
  • Food Handlers Certificate (Level 1).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Work cooperatively with other disciplines.
  • Computer literacy as appropriate to the setting.
  • Must have the ability to work with people with mental and physical impairment.
  • Must have the ability to deal with issues of death and dying.
  • Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, creativity, sound judgment and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the position demands.
  • May be exposed to disease, toxic materials, allergens, blood, body fluid, feces, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.


This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.


Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT. The WRHA legal entity includes Churchill Health Centre, Deer Lodge Centre, Grace Hospital, Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Pan Am Clinic, River Park Gardens, Victoria General Hospital, WRHA corporate programs, and WRHA community health services.
