Position Overview

Reporting to the Director Health Services - Staff Development, Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C), the Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner participates as an active member of the Regional Staff Development, Infection Prevention & Control Team, assisting in the provision of services and support throughout the Southern Health-Santé Sud region. the Regional IP&C Program. This position includes the, implementation, and evaluation of the Regional IP&C Program. The incumbent acts as a facilitator and educational resource, proactively identifying and meeting training needs, and contributes to the implementation and evaluation of the Infection Prevention & Control Program.

 

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in Infection Prevention & Control.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
  • Certificate in Infection Prevention & Control or willingness to acquire.
  • Suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current active practice registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and scope of practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Canadian Safety Association (CSA) Standards Certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current knowledge in epidemiology, microbiology, statistics and infection control best practices.
  • Knowledge of principles of adult education, teaching and learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of policy development and implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use an analytical and inquiring approach to problem-solving while contributing to program improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and make decisions independently.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and flexibility to meet the demands of the position.
  • Demonstrates Southern Health-Santé Sud core values.
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.

Physical Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.

 

 

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
