Position Overview
Reporting to the Lead - Physical Plant Services, the Electrician is subject matter expert and performs electrical related duties on equipment and fixtures, works collaboratively with others in a preventative maintenance program, and assists with policy development as well as the ordering and controlling of supplies.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Experience
- Three (3) years as a journeyman electrician within the last five (5) years as an electrician in a commercial setting.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in general carpentry, plumbing, painting, plastering, electrical, pneumatic and electronic controls and equipment maintenance.
- Maintenance experience in a health care facility an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Completion of grade twelve (12) education or equivalent.
- Knowledge and ability to interpret and understand Canadian electrical codes and building codes.
- Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of various types of mechanical equipment and their functions.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and their purpose.
- Knowledge of basic safe work legislation and practices.
- Knowledge of Fire Codes and C.S.A standards.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Red Seal Journeyman Electrician License as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex instructions, including manufacturers’ directions.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work and maintain positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
- Good work and attendance record.
- Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders and ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. and crawlspace work.
- May be required to work in a variety of temperatures including excessive heat or cold.
- May be required to work with hazardous chemicals.
- May be required to be on call evenings and weekends as necessary.
- May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
- May be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
