Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient- centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

SMHC is a 252-bed facility that provides specialized inpatient mental health and acquired brain injury treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba and Nunavut whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system.

SMHC has five specialized patient programs: Acute, Geriatric, Rehabilitation, Forensic, and Acquired Brain Injury that are delivered on a 100-acre campus with several buildings located throughout the property, as well as three offsite community group homes located in Selkirk.

In this position, the nature and scope of the work being performed is non-routine, highly-varied, task-focused and is often project-oriented; as such, it calls for competence that has both depth and breadth. The incumbent must have the ability to quickly grasp the essentials of complex issues, to develop sound practical solutions for problems and to work effectively under pressure. The Manager of Support Services is expected to plan and to establish priorities among competing organizational demands.

This is a senior management position that requires the maintenance of effective, productive working relationships with a variety of employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders. The incumbent must set a visible example for constructive cooperation in coordinating the efforts of all employees to strive for service provision that is safe and high quality.

Employees are responsible for adhering to the Shared Health policies, procedures and the Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations. Employees are required to take reasonable care to protect themselves and others who may be affected by their actions or omissions, or actions or omissions of others, including proper use of safety equipment, clothing and devices, and cooperating with the SMHC Workplace Safety and Health Committee and any other persons regarding workplace safety and health matters. 

 

Main Function:
Under the direction of the Facilities Services Support Lead, the Manager, Support Services is accountable for the development and coordination of support services while ensuring the cohesive integration of these services with programs to achieve optimal patient care.

Support Services includes environmental hygiene, food production, laundry, mobile support, order/receiving/warehousing supplies, building maintenance as well as managing capital and minor capital expenditures.

Experience

  • Management experience in a healthcare environment, required.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized setting, preferred.
  • Experience in quality improvement, workplace safety, patient safety, and risk management, required.
  • Experience applying change management principles, required.
  • Experience in developing policies and procedures, required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-secondary degree/Bachelor of Human Nutritional Sciences or Food Sciences or a degree in Management or post-secondary certification in healthcare management required.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Lean 6-sigma certification at a Green Belt level or higher, desired.
