General Duty Mammography Technologist - Rural

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Charge Technologist or delegate, and in collaboration with the Radiology Director, or Manager, the General Duty Mammography Technologist provides effective and efficient performance of high-quality breast imaging. Reports all noteworthy situations, incidents, problems or concerns involving patients and staff to their supervisor, site director or designate. 

Experience

• One year working experience in a clinic environment and demonstrated ability to consistently produce high-quality mammograms.
• Experience using RIS/PACS or equivalent radiology information system.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Successful completion of an accredited Medical Radiologic Technology Program.
• Mammography Certificate Course 1 and 2 (equivalent combination of knowledge, training and experience may be considered).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
• Maintains professional recertification.

Qualifications and Skills

• Knowledge of the emotional and psychosocial needs of women and men and ability to apply the knowledge toward alleviating the trauma of undergoing medical imaging procedures for the patient and family.
• Knowledge of computer systems i.e.MS Office Programs, Outlook, word processing, electronic patient record and e-mail applications.
• Provides high quality breast imaging, mammography exams.
• Assists radiologists in the performance of breast procedures as required.
• Communicates all significant patient information to members of the team in a timely manner.
• Facilitates and tracks the correlation of pathology and mammogram reports by the Radiologist.
• Reviews clinic schedules daily to ensure all diagnostic imaging are available for patient assessment.
• Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
• Must have effective organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other disciplines and demonstrate professional judgment and initiative; contributes to a positive work environment to foster an atmosphere of respect and caring.

Physical Requirements

• Demonstrated reliability to committed shifts and a willingness to accept additional shift work as required.
• Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time without resting.
