In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of our departments across the province will require additional staffing to support our fight against COVID-19; while continuing to provide the best possible health care services to Manitobans.

 

Manitoba recognizes the hard work and dedication of our front-line heath care providers and we are looking for additional experienced health care providers to offer support during these unprecedented and challenging times, to help provincial efforts to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19.

Position Overview

Swabbing will be performed under direct supervision until the incumbent has demonstrated competence to perform the procedure independently.

  • Conducts Nasopharyngeal swabs at COVID19 testing sites including drive-through testing sites.
  • Acknowledges travel history and symptoms.
  • Observes patient for respiratory distress.
  • Completes patient education and provides information handouts regarding Novel Coronavirus, self-isolation fact sheet, and what to do while awaiting test results.
  • Completes required documentation.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

RN, RN(AP), RN(NP), RPN, LPN, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Dentists, Midwives, Naturopaths.

1. Applicants:

a. Employed in a permanent position in one of the classifications listed below by a Regional Health Authority or by Shared Health; or
b. Employed by a license holder who provides a land emergency medical response service under a written agreement with Shared Health; or
c. Engaged to practice paramedicine at a nursing station in Northern Manitoba and issued a certificate of practice from the College of Paramedics of Manitoba to do so; or
d. Who have successfully completed the Nasopharyngeal Swab Collection Training Program

  • Audiologists
  • Audiology Assistants
  • Health Care Aides
  • Medical Laboratory Technologists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Paramedics (Primary Care Paramedics, Critical Care Paramedics, Advanced Care Paramedics)
  • Pharmacists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Registered Dietitians
  • Speech Language Pathologists
  • Rehab Aides

 

2. Applicants with the qualifications identified below who have successfully completed the Nasopharyngeal Swab Collection Training Program offered by Red River College:

  • Emergency Medical Responders
  • Persons qualified to practice medicine in another jurisdiction outside Manitoba or outside Canada
  • Persons qualified to practice registered nursing, licensed practical nursing or psychiatric nursing in another jurisdiction outside Manitoba or outside Canada

 

3. Health Care Students who meet the requirements identified below and who have successfully completed the Nasopharyngeal Swab Collection Training Program offered by Red River College:

  • Registered Nursing (2nd year or higher)
  • Licensed Practical Nursing (2nd year or higher)
  • Psychiatric Nursing (2nd year or higher)
  • Medicine (2nd year or higher)
  • Medical Laboratory Technologist (2nd year or higher)
  • Physician Assistant education program
  • Paramedicine education program
  • Respiratory therapy, education program
  • Dentistry education program

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active Member in good standing of their regulatory body as applicable
  • Proof of successful completion of the Nasopharyngeal Swab Collection Training Program offered by Red River College

  • Ability to make independent clinical decisions and work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates strong assessment skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill, and interest in working with diverse people with a variety of backgrounds, lifestyles, abilities, health status, choices, and other attributes, required.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • Compliance with workplace safely, PPE policies and procedures required.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrated competency in working with the public.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
