Position Overview
The Regional Lead - Indigenous Health ensures Indigenous endeavors, programs and services have a foundation in Indigenous values and principles. Provides leadership throughout development, implementation and evaluation of Southern Health-Santé Sud’s Indigenous Health Strategy and policies, incorporating input from Indigenous communities and agencies. Providing leadership and oversight as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Regional Lead - Indigenous Health advises on cultural and related issues and is integral in the implementation of changes identified to reflect the needs of Indigenous health, with a focus on building cultural competency throughout the organization, community development and health promotion.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience
- Two (2) years supervisory/management experience within a unionized environment.
- Experience working with First Nation or Indigenous Health.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Post-secondary degree in health-related discipline (combination of education and experience related to the position may be considered).
- Advance education credentials preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be of Indigenous ancestry.
- Ability to speak in Indigenous language(s) considered an asset.
- Incorporates Indigenous traditional knowledge and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Knowledge of:
- Indigenous customs and traditions.
- Historical context and culture of Indigenous peoples and building successful long-term relationships with Indigenous people, agencies and communities.
- Familiarity with Indigenous health issues, population health, and health status of citizens in Southern Health-Santé Sud.
- The Manitoba health care system, federal health care system, provincial and federal governance, and leadership models.
- Computer systems and current and related software applications including social media.
- Familiar with adult learning education principles and development and evaluation of education strategies.
- Working knowledge of human resource functions, including recruitment, performance management, and applicable legislation.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and to work in a multidisciplinary team-based environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop self and others with a focus on skills and knowledge in self, colleagues and clients based on learning and communicating best practices.
- Demonstrates initiative and is a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimum of supervision.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously including exercising a bring forward system for team members.
- Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
- Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
- Good work and attendance record.
Physical Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- The incumbent functions autonomously on a day-to-day basis.
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
