Position Overview

Reporting to the Director - Financial Reporting, the Accountant is responsible for account analysis and reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy of information processed through the general ledger and its subledgers. The incumbent assists with month-end, year-end and budgeting processes as well as prepares internal and external reporting.

 

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with computerized accounting systems.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains software considered an asset.
  • Prior experience with bank and account reconciliations.
  • Prior training or experience in coordinating, teaching or directing activities.
  • Knowledge and experience in health care preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as accounting, business, and/or finance from a recognized education institution.
  • Presently enrolled or pursuing a CPA (Canada) designation preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of MS Office suite required with particular competency in the creation and modification of Excel spreadsheets including PivotTables.
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting principles required.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform accurately with multiple priorities and competing deadlines, with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities and the willingness to promote positive change.
  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
  • Good work and attendance record.

Physical Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • May be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties require.
