Position Overview

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Retail Clerk is responsible for supportive duties, mainly of clerical and reception as related to client service in the Pharmacy Department.

Experience

  • Previous experience in clerical and/or secretarial duties as required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology an asset.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Computer knowledge in Word, Excel programs an asset.
  • Familiarity with office systems, photocopiers, facsimiles and complex telephone system.
  • Accuracy and precision in detailed work, consistent with accepted standards of practice in a pharmacy workplace, including legible handwriting, accuracy in arithmetical calculations, and an ability to work with drug product generic and trade names, and dosage strengths of products.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work co-operatively with the public and staff as a team member.
  • Displays a polite, helpful and courteous manner when communicating with patients/residents, families, the general public and other staff members/consultants.
  • Demonstrates a calm and confident manner during emergency and/or difficult situations.
  • Displays good interpersonal and telephone relations with Pharmacists, Physicians, Administrative staff, Nursing staff, other facility departments, patients, family, and the general public.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position.
  • Represents the Churchill Health Centre in a professional and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates good judgement, in deciding which matters should be referred to the Pharmacist or other medical staff members, and to do so in timely fashion.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
