Position Overview
The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for providing clinical expertise to the nurses. The CRN assumes a leadership role assisting staff in coordinating patient care within the health care team to ensure quality patient care outcomes and promotes an interdisciplinary patient centered approach to care based on best practices. Assists in clinical direction, guidance and contributes to the assessment and evaluation of the clinical practice of nurses in collaboration of the Manager Health Services in accordance with the CRNM or CRPNM or other accepted standards of nursing practice. Demonstrates a commitment to the vison, values, goals and objectives of the unit. Provides a support role to staff.
Experience
- A minimum of three years recent related nursing experience required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing or Registered Psychiatric Nursing education program required, BN or BScMH or BScPN is preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).
- Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM).
- Current B.L.S. registration at the Targeted Responder Level is required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Knowledge of:
- College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards and Practice for Registered Nurses (College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards and Practice for RPN’s in Mental Health).
- Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for RPN’s in Mental Health).
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act.
- Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
- Nursing care knowledge related to clinical area.
- Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
- Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
- Principles of delegation.
- Demonstrated effective organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking/problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of ESP preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a health care facility.
- Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to act with initiative, judgment, tact and diplomacy essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, including internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be innovative, highly motivated and an energetic team player.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and support system changes.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects.
Physical Requirements
- Competing demands and priorities.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort is required.
- Hours of work are flexible and may include evening, night or weekend shifts as required.
This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
