Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

 

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Diagnostic Services Manager, the Cardiology Technologist Student works as part of a multidisciplinary team, to provide best practice Diagnostic Imaging Services on a regional basis in order to promote good health and quality of life.

  • To accurately perform routine ECG's.
  • To recognize any acute changes in the cardiogram and to alert the physician.
  • To answer beeper calls and set priorities accordingly, e.g. Stat, Urgent, and Routine.
  • To make available information to physicians, i.e. fax or photocopy information.
  • To perform rhythm strips, or special lead combinations as requested by physician.
  • To maintain cleanliness and integrity of equipment.
  • Prepare recorder for Holter Monitoring.
  • Assists with blood pressure monitoring and Holter hookup and removal.
  • Explain and perform patient hook up.
  • Perform a test strip.
  • Take tape, diary and requisition to the Holter lab for analyzing.
  • To maintain cleanliness and integrity of equipment.
  • Assists in in-service education programs, clinical practicums, job shadows, and orientation of new staff.
  • Practice principles of microbial safety i.e. isolation techniques and universal precautions.
  • Daily equipment cleaning.
  • Basic maintenance of lead wires and electrodes.
  • Other duties as required.

Experience

  • Two (2) years’ experience in performing of ECG and Holter monitoring within the last five (5) years.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Other combinations of suitable education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • BCLS (Level C) required.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
