Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Health Records Processing/Transcription, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of the St. Boniface General Hospital, the MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST is responsible for:  transcribing health record reports; batch printing transcribed reports; performing the necessary computer interface and computer back-up duties; and performing other related duties as assigned.


  • One (1) year medical transcription experience


Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade XII or recognized equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Secretarial Program that included transcribing medical terminology.
  • Successful completion of the Medical Transcriptionist Program at Red River College.

  • Keyboarding speed:  60 wpm
  • Medical Transcription Speed 35 wpm
  • Dictyping skills
  • Ability to work in a windows operating environment
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
