Position Overview

Shared Health is seeking a Manager - Internal Audit who will report to the Director Risk & Audit Services to manage stakeholder relationships and work in partnership with the management of our health system service delivery organizations (SDOs) to provide reasonable assurance of the adequacy of internal controls including:


  • Ensuring compliance with contracts, policies, business plans, legislation and regulations.
  • Safeguarding assets and the efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Conducting special reviews, projects, investigations and audits including those requested by senior management or the Board of Directors and preparing related recommendations.
  • Providing risk management advice and recommendations on new business processes and systems.
  • Assisting the director in planning, implementing, and reporting on the operational objectives of the audit function and the action plans to best achieve Shared Health’s vision, mission and mandate with consideration for the relative risk of the activities addressed within the audit plan.
  • Assisting external agencies (external auditors, Office of the Auditor General) in the conduct of any special reviews within Shared Health.


  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible audit experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience using a risk-based audit approach to conduct financial and operational audits, forensic investigations and information technology audits.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • A postsecondary degree in business, accounting or a related field is required, a post-graduate degree in healthcare administration is an asset.


  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with membership in good standing, or equivalent, is required.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) designations are assets.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated mid-level leadership capabilities. The provincial health system in Manitoba has adopted the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework.
  • Demonstrated comprehension of the technical and operational environment of audit clients within clinical, support and infrastructure departments, of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and of Information Technology systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in working with management level stakeholders independently, writing reports, preparing and conducting presentations and facilitating group discussions.
  • Ability to translate audit issues into language comprehensible to healthcare staff and management.


This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
