Position Overview

The incumbent performs a variety of technical functions relating to the accurate and efficient processing of health records with regard to discharge analysis, quality assurance of records completion, coding and abstracting of clinical information, utilization and tasks related to the department’s statistical, audit, release of personal health information and research requirements.

Experience

  • Related experience in a Health Information Services Department required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Information Management program.
  • Education and experience in ICD10 CA/CCI coding and abstracting standards as well as Manitoba Health and CIHI data requirements is required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active CHIMA membership preferred.

  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to successfully work within a team environment.
  • Flexibility, reliability and independence in planning work.
  • Willingness to participate in skill updating and self-development activities relating to the job.
  • Must appreciate the need for accuracy and thoroughness with regard to performance of duties.

Physical Requirements

  • General office environment.
  • Prolonged physical activities include; walking, standing for long periods, sitting, lifting & loading chart bins, stair climbing, carrying multiple chart volumes, pushing carts filled with charts, bending frequently, pulling and reaching for charts.
  • Environment consists of frequent interruptions.

 

 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
