Position Overview

Working as a member of the Records Processing team and with leadership from the Supervisor/Manager of Records Management, the incumbent is responsible to provide clerical support by providing, maintaining and processing patient records for Centre-wide patient care; specifically by maintaining the system to monitor and report physician compliance with Medical Staff By Laws and Regulations pertaining to record completion.


  • One year related experience in a Medical Records environment, using terminal digit filing system, and completing qualitative analysis of medical records.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required. Successful completion of the first year of a two year recognized Health Information Technology (Health Record Technician) program required.
  • Successful completion of a two year Health Information Technologist Program preferred.
  • Alpha-numeric recognition aptitude required.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills (minimum 50 wpm) and medical terminology required (HSC test pass mark 75%).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Operational knowledge of computer terminals required.
  • Knowledge of word processing, and understanding of spreadsheets, and database software required.
  • Excellent command of English (oral and written) and excellent interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Must be well organized, able to meet deadlines, and handle large volumes of work.
  • Meets deadlines, problem solves and exercises judgement for decision making within the scope of the job description and within the team mandate.

Physical Requirements

  • Use of V.D.T.
  • No natural light.
  • Prolonged physical activities include; standing, sitting, bending, lifting and loading/unloading chart bins weighing approximately 25 lbs., and moving heavy lateral-mobile shelving units.
  • Work environment consists of frequent interruptions, contact of a sensitive nature with medical staff.
