Position Overview

Works directly with the Director and staff of the Materiel Services Department.  Relates to other programs and services within the Hospital in the process of disseminating information, making appointments and scheduling meetings.  Provides information and support to programs and services for the WHMIS program.

Experience

  • Three years secretarial experience in a similar or directly related position in a healthcare setting. 

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required. 
  • Successful completion of a recognized Secretarial or Business Office training program required.  
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum typing speed of 60 w.p.m..
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, ESP and internet, with preference given to individuals with Materiel Services software (i.e. ORMED). 
  • The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently with limited supervision and show good judgment, initiative, diplomacy and have the ability to coordinate workflow and develop efficiencies. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with all levels of staff, outside agencies and the general public. 
  • Ability to prioritize a diverse workload, exercise sound judgment and work in an organized manner. 
  • Ability to effectively contribute to a team oriented environment. 
  • Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality according to department hospital policy. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain staff scheduling. 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Physical and mental health necessary to meet the demands of the position.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and work effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions.
