Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the incumbent attends to maintenance requests from WRHA but not limited to the Corporate and Community sites which include all Access Centers and Corporate Offices.


The Technician completes PM’s, repair requests and or small projects that are submitted through the HIPPO Maintenance Program by each site. In addition, the Technician completes routine and preventative maintenance tasks which include inspection of each facilities maintenance operations, building envelope, building systems and grounds, HVAC units, all plumbing and heating equipment, backup generators, pneumatic controls, fire detection equipment and overseeing contractors work for the multiple sites.


A vehicle will be required for this position. Must be able to carry and use cell phone for maintenance purposes.


  • Two (2) years' experience in maintaining mechanical building systems, heating, ventilation, cooling systems and their components in a health care or institutional facility required

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Building Systems Technician Certificate an asset


  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in maintenance and use of fire protection and firefighting equipment
  • Must be able to perform maintenance on down lift stations and crawl space
  • Lift and carry heavy machinery (wells, pumps, compressors, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communications skills
  • Required to perform record keeping of facility maintenance operations. Maintain comprehensive records of all work completed
  • Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision
  • Demonstrated independent and collaborative decision making skills
  • Ability to take direction when directed
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to be on a 24- hour emergency call
  • Good physical and mental health and dexterity required. Job requires heavy lifting, bending, working from ladders and scaffolds, high level platforms or in confined spaces and enclosures, working in all weather conditions and be able to work in a warm humid environment and be free from any respiratory problems to susceptibility to infection which may hamper job performance.
  • May be required to work extended hours
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic material, noise, allergens, blood, feces, body fluids, etc.


This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
