Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Department Manager, the incumbent performs routine and preventative maintenance tasks and inspection of all aspects of facility maintenance and operations, including (but not limited to) building envelope, building systems and grounds for MCH. The incumbent responds to emergency calls for such infrastructure, as part of a rotating 24 hour on-call personnel, there may be a possibility of weekend/evening work. Able to carry and use cell phone for maintenance purposes. Maintain and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment. This includes HVAC units, all plumbing and heating equipment, pneumatic controls, fire detection equipment, and backup generators. Assisting in the operation of the onsite sewage treatment plant.

Experience
  • Two (2) years experience in maintaining mechanical building systems, heating, ventilation, cooling systems and their components in a health care or institutional facility required
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Building Systems Technician Certificate an asset
  • Must commit to taking the Manitoba Water and Sewage course
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must have valid driver’s license
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience in maintenance and use of fire protection and firefighting equipment
  • Must be able to perform maintenance on down lift stations and crawl space
  • Left and carry heavy machinery (wells, pumps, compressors, etc.)
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communications skills
  • Required to perform record keeping of facility maintenance operations. Maintain comprehensive records of all work completed
  • Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision
  • Demonstrated independent and collaborative decision making skills
  • Ability to take direction when directed
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in English; both orally and in writing
Physical Requirements
  • Will assume on call responsibilities as directed
  • Must be on 24 hour emergency call
  • Good physical and mental health and dexterity required. Job requires heavy lifting, bending, working from ladders and scaffolds, high level platforms or in confined spaces and enclosures, working in all weather conditions and be able to work in a warm humid environment and be free from any respiratory problems to susceptibility to infection which may hamper job performance.

  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic material, noise, allergens, blood, feces, body fluids, etc.

 

Salary commensurate with education and qualifications.
 

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
