Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Facilities, the incumbent is responsible for:

 

  • The day to day organization of equipment and supplies for the department.
  • Work with and responsible for the supervision of the Maintenance Helpers and Workers, Maintenance equipment and supplies including training
  • Ensuring equipment is safe and in good mechanical working order and is available for use.
  • Providing administrative support related to the tracking and record-keeping related to all equipment purchases and inventory.
  • Coordinating and maintaining equipment/instrument/supply inventories, ensuring that quantity and quality standards are maintained.
  • Facilitating the preventative maintenance, health and safety programs
  • Acting as a resource for staff in trouble shooting and the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Participating in or leading various relevant committees, projects and working groups as required.

Experience

  • Minimum three years’ experience in maintenance and/or assisting with trades-related maintenance work in institutional buildings
  • Experience in physical plant maintenance
  • Experience in Health Care Institution preferred
  • Experience in a supervisory role and in the direction of staff

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Completion of a relevant post-secondary education or technical diploma in a relevant field
  • Manitoba Journeyman qualification and/or an Inter provincial Seal in any trade area preferred
  • Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Hold a valid driver’s license

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of labour law, workplace safety and health regulations and building and fire codes
  • General knowledge of personal computer operations
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member and make recommendations and /or decisions in a complex interdisciplinary environment
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Ability to communicate constructively with external contacts
  • Demonstrated ability to represent the CHC in a professional and positive manner

Physical Requirements

  • Good physical and mental health and manual dexterity required
  • Must be able to withstand periods of strenuous activity 
  • Job requires heavy lifting, bending, and working from scaffolds, high level platforms and in confined spaces and enclosures
  • Possible contact with hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases
  • Extreme outside weather conditions
